characteristics
Stem is erect, green, jointed and grooved with numerous ridges. Leaves are tiny black *teeth* with white borders. A wax-like cone, with a blunt tip, is topped with a small point. Spheric spores are green. Reproduces by spores and rhizomes. Spreads rapidly by rhizomes radiating outward from the original plant. Can be invasive.
Starts from spores, bare root, cuttings.

Equisetum is the sole surviving genus of a group of primitive plants from the Carboniferous period (300 million years ago); some of which species reached up to 30 m tall.
